Table top photography

At our meeting on February 15th we had a session on table top photography which presented members with an opportunity to get some Still Life scenes. It proved to be a very worthwhile exercise, members were given advice by Jim Troy on the various settings required to get the desired results. We wait in anticipation for the entries for our competition based on “Still Life” next week.

The judging of which is taking place at our meeting on February 29^th by George Willoughby.

We wish our members Stephen Ryan, Christy Bracken and Eamon Brennan who qualified for the National Nature finals the very best of luck. They will travel to Westport, County Mayo on Saturday March 10^th.

On Saturday evening a group from the club attended a function in the Anner Hotel, Thurles to Honour one of our esteemed members Jim Troy who was one of three members of the staff of Centenary Coop that had retired recently. Jim who had been employed at the Ballyduff branch had amassed a service almost totaling forty five years. We heard at first hand from the management staff an account of his loyal and dedicated service during his very long tenure. We wish Jim every good wish, health and happiness in the years ahead. He is currently one of the longest members in our club and once again he has always been very generous with his co-operation to fellow members.

Still Life

To all members you are reminded to bring your camera and flash gun to our meeting this evening. Jim Troy is doing table top photography which gives everyone the opportunity to get Still Life scenes. As Still Life is the theme of our next competition this is the ideal opportunity and avail of it!

At our meeting on February 8th we had our second session on Photoshop courtesy of Jim Troy. Sessions of this type gives everyone a brilliant opportunity to equip themselves with many aspects of enhancing images that require some treatment. As the season progresses we will return to this topic once again.

As many family occasions will be coming up by way of First Communion; Confirmation etc members will be giving an opportunity to update themselves with a session on setting up small groups and the use of flash on February 22nd. To those interested make sure not to forget the cameras and to have batteries for the flash gun. The following week will be the submission of our competition based on “Still Life”.

On February 1st we had the judging of our “People” competition. Jim Finn did a splendid job in judging the large number of prints. He gave comments on every entry which were well received. He outlined at the outset that anything he was about to say was going to be of a constructive nature and that it truly was. When the judging came to a conclusion Jim gave his own digital presentation on the very subject that he had judged as well as some mountain climbing scenes from Italy. The chairman Neil Ryan complemented Jim on doing so and added that it was the very first time that a judge had displayed images on the very subject that had been judged, adding that it was a brave departure.

January Competition

At our meeting on January 18th we had the judging of our Novelty Digital competition
theme Christmas setting. The judging was done by the members thought secret ballot.
It proved to be a successful event. Our thanks to John O’ Loughlin for providing the voting
sheets and for doing the tallying of the results. Afterwards Jim Freeman gave a digital
presentation covering the trip to Scotland last year which was well received.

The results of the competition were 1st John O’Loughlin, 2nd Dusan Hozan, 3RD J.J.
Fogarty, 4th Brendan O’Loughlin. Our congratulations to all concerned.
On February 1st we will have the judging of our first competition of 2012 the theme
being “People”.

This competition also provides members to formulate an entry for a
forthcoming regional competition which has a similar theme.
We have also commenced giving sessions on Photoshop and our next one is being held
on February 8th, so members should have all their queries answered regarding this topic
over the coming weeks.

Happy New Year to all our members. We will be judging our novelty competition depicting Christmas scenes at our meeting on Wednesday January 18th. On January 25th we are having a session on Photoshop and also the entries for our club competition, theme “People” are to be submitted and will be judged on February 1st.

IPF Distinctions @ Thurles

At our meeting last Wednesday November 23rd Jim Troy set up projected image and gave members a practical session on the setting of aperture etc. It was a session with a difference. We will have a practical session on Night Photography on December 14th when the town is lit up with the Christmas lighting.

On Saturday November 26th last our club hosted the Irish Photographic Federation National Distinctions in the Tipperary Institute. The day commenced @ 8.30am with the erecting of the display stands and members assisted until 5pm handling some fantastic images. We also had a selection of our own prints on display outside the distinction hall.
Our thanks to the management of the Institute for making the splendid facility available to us.

Special thanks to all the members who helped to make the event a wonderful success.

We will have the judging of our Nature competition on Wednesday December 7th. Our Christmas party is on Saturday December 10th anyone interested contact the officers immediately.

Weekly Notes Nov 9th

On Wednesday November 9th Jim Troy, John O’Loughlin and Sadie O’Dwyer gave their views on all the prints that were submitted by our members. They were delighted to hear the comments made and found it a learning process on their way to become more accomplished in their photography.

Debbie Hickey gave a digital presentation on Lomography which helped enlighten club members.

Chairman Neil Ryan reminded members of the forthcoming I.P.F. Distinctions which is being held in The Tipperary Institute on Saturday November 26th and is hosted by our club. He informed that he required volunteers for the day and added that our club should have a collection of prints on display.

Also at our next meeting we will be formulating a list for our Annual Christmas Party which is being held in Hayes Hotel on Saturday December 10th. Anyone interested please inform the officers.

Open Competition

A reminder to all our members to bring with them to tonight’s meeting: 3 colour 7×5 prints and 3 black and white 7×5 prints. These will be put forward to our open themed competition, so your photograph can be any style whatsoever! Tonight we will have a session on photography courtesy of John O’Loughlin and there will be a presentation of medals and the Perpetual Cup in memory of Paddy Prior.
